Retinal Implant Alpha IMS Brings Sight to Blind in New Study (w/video)

Retina Implant AG, a German developer of subretinal implants to help restore sight of people with retinitis pigmentosa, has announced publication of results of a new clinical trial of its Alpha IMS system. Nine blind people received the 3×3 mm wireless microchip implants that feature a 1500 pixel resolution. The implants capture light and in turn stimulate the optic nerve, which delivers visual signal data to the brain.

A distinct advantage of the Alpha IMS is that, unlike other similar devices such as the recently released Argus II, it does not rely on an external camera. Instead, light is detected inside the eye, enabling the patient to look around by moving his eyes rather than the head. It also has a much higher resolution grid and is implanted under the retina, allowing the middle layer of the retina to process the input before it is sent to the visual cortex.

In the study, a majority of the participants had functional vision restored and two of the subjects developed visual ability considerably more substantial than seen in the initial clinical study of the Alpha IMS. Three of the people were able to read large printed letters spontaneously post implantation.

Thanks, GOP. People are wising up to the Republican party and seeing right through them. Why anybody would still be a Republican at this point is beyond me. Ironically the Republican party’s favorability percentage is interestingly close to the percentage of people registered as Republicans.

NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE…

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can perhaps buy precious time to get themselves to a phone and dial 911.

…keep saying that President Obama is the worst president ever. But he easily defeated their best presidential candidates TWICE. So what does that say about the Republican party when their best ain’t enough? Let’s not forget that unemployment is down, the deficit is getting smaller, and the stock market is hitting record highs. Not to mention I have read plenty of stories of how Obamacare is actually helping people with preexisting conditions (like my mother who has arthritis) who would normally get turned down by insurance companies, get the healthcare they want! I’ll come out and say it. I am proud of President Obama and the work he is trying to get done DESPITE zero cooperation, zero support, and tons of obstruction from the right. So Republicans are more than welcome to sit there pissing, moaning, whining, and complaining. They can make up all the false scandals they want and they can cover their trucks in all the “Nobama”, “Keep the Change”, “Impeach Obama” (which I have yet to see any valid reason as to why), and anti-Obama/anti-Liberal bumper stickers they want. They are not patriots. They are at best, SORE LOSERS.

Look at this exemplar of the next generation of Americans and weep. Your very first mistake was buying into the Democrat vs. Republican paradigm. They are two faces of a coin, a marionette show to occupy the minds of an increasingly moronic populace- there is no functional difference between them.

Your parroting of the state propaganda talking points concerning the supposed recovery speaks for itself. Unemployment is going down? You do realize that the government statistics are completely cooked, yes? Actual unemployment is over 20%, and it’s increasing. Full-time jobs are being replaced by part-time. The deficit is decreasing? By what metric? The national debt is increasing by over a trillion a year, not including the $1.2 quadrillion international derivatives market. The stock market? The stock market is now solely dependent on the whims of the Federal Reserve. It took a nosedive the other day just because the idea of ending debt monetization was even mentioned. I think Bernanke (Federal Reserve Chairman, in the likely event that you didn’t know) just got hard knowing that his mind-fucking campaign has worked so well.

Let me let you in on a little secret. There is no economy left in this country. Domestic manufacturing has all but fled the country or gone bust. All we have are debt-financed bubbles designed to distract the American public from the real problems, and kick the can a little farther down the road. Hell, they even admitted that the goal of pumping up the stock market was to create a “wealth effect;” the idea is to get everyday Americans to believe that things are improving. Clearly it’s worked with you and your generational cohort.

Do yourself a favor and learn about how our so-called economy works. I’d suggest reading about fractional reserve banking, financial leverage, the dollar as international reserve currency, and the effects of zero-interest rate policy. Also, realize that ultimately Obama is just a figurehead, a thrall to monied interests. To me, Bush and Obama are the exact same person wearing different suits. Your indignation is misplaced.
